I love bonfire night – it’s my absolute favourite of the mass celebrations we have in this country. What could be better than a bloody big bonfire and popping whizzing pink crackling sparkles??
Before the big fires of the night I’m having one of my very irregular football pilgrimages to St James Park with my chap to cheer the magpies on against the…er… whatever they call Everton.
But the biggest event of the weekend is definitely going to see Eddie Reader at PLAYHOUSE Whitley Bay on Sunday 6 November.
I can’t count the times I listened to The First of a Million Kisses back in 1988 when I was a wee 12 year old - the Fairground Attraction album containing Perfect, and A Smile and a Whisper. Those were the days of Bros Vs Brother Beyond and T’Pau Vs Salt n Pepa – the Ribena and Shaggy Perm years. And yet this whirligig blend of folky pop won the Brit awards for best album and best single the following year.
Since splitting from Fairground Attraction, Eddie Reader has had a notable solo career, including the translation of Scottish poet Robert Burns’ work into song, and several film soundtracks. 10 solo albums down the line and she is now operating her own record label and still going strong.
Tickets are £20 and limited so book now.
