Adventures in Panto

Before I started working for Audiences North East in 2006 I’d never been to a panto. Then suddenly I was going to 3 or 4 a year as a reviewer/writer for whatsonnortheast.com. I must admit I’ve enjoyed them all – the stories are silly, the costumes are extremely silly and the songs are often silliest of all.

Last year I found myself booing and hissing like an old pro, and this year I’m looking forward to taking my niece Evie along to her first ever panto and seeing if she gets into all the audience participation (i.e. shouting and singing) now that she’s the grand old age of four. She loved her first foray into theatre when I took her to see The Gruffalo last year, so fingers crossed she’ll like this even more.

The cast of Dick Whittington try to find The Journal Tyne Theatre

We’re going to see Dick Whittington at The Journal Tyne Theatre, which has had loads of publicity and looks like a lavish production starring North East comedians Maxie and Mitch, and the very evil Queen Rat. It’s really good value with tickets from £10 and  up to three shows a day throughout Christmas and into the New Year. I’ll let you know what Evie thought…

Book tickets for Dick Whittington at The Journal Tyne  Theatre now.
