Review - Giles Peterson and Roberto Fonseca: Havana Cultura Live
By Kerry Ellis Byrne
I wasn’t sure quite what to expect from this (the tickets having been a surprise gift!) and no clear clues could be found from a glance around the eclectic audience. What a great night though! The wide range of punters was treated to a diverse yet coherent musical mix of all things Cuban: from traditional sounds, to laid back hip hop, to frenzied jazz and much more.
The incredible musicians, led from the piano by the uber-cool Roberto Fonseca, provided an astonishing platform for the extremely gifted and natural vocalists and it seemed everyone in Hall Two found their dancing feet in no time. The party continued on the concourse with Giles Peterson spinning an irresistible dj set, to which the members of the North East’s salsa dancing clubs did us proud!
