The Christmas Tyne, Gateshead Winter Village will launch on Baltic Square on December 1st.

The village has been dubbed as the number one go to themed attraction this season and is set to attract thousands of revellers and families to the iconic Quayside site in the build-up to Christmas.

The village will feature an indoor-outdoor cinema screening an array of Christmas film family favourites as well as a giant Teepee complete with a bar, locally sourced craft beer, fire pits and seating.

The attraction is also set to host up to 12 stalls offering visitors the chance to pick up Christmas gifts, local crafts and seasonal food. And those last-minute wrapping nightmares can be avoided this year, as local charities will be on hand to present wrap while guests enjoy a pint or a mulled wine at the bar.

And, in a bid to offer guests the ultimate staff night out and a unique intimate family dining experience, Christmas Tyne will offer people the chance to book panoramic igloo pods with views of the river complete with an exclusive menu provided by the Newcastle restaurant, Colonel Porter’s Emporium.

Organiser Steve Davis hopes the winter village will serve as a welcome and a traditional shot in the arm to the Christmas landscape, providing an alternative to the German themed markets which have also proved popular on Tyneside in recent times.

He said: “We’re super excited about the launch of Christmas Tyne and we’re looking forward to giving the people of Tyneside and beyond something truly different to experience this season.

We were determined to host something for the people by the people this year with all of our food, beverages and gifts sourced within 40 miles of Gateshead.

Colonel Porter’s have pulled out all of the stops with our Christmas Menu and it’s fitting that this company is named after the man who created Newcastle Brown Ale who set sail from the Tyne near this site to make the beer one of the most recognised and popular brands in the world.

We can’t wait and believe us, today marks only the confirmation that the market is happening. We’ve got many more exciting announcements forthcoming to make Christmas this year truly memorable and magical.”

Christmas Tyne, Gateshead Winter Village will officially open on Saturday 1st December and will run into 2019.

Access to the site is free of charge and opening hours will stretch from 12 noon until 12 midnight seven days a week.

SSD Concerts is also poised to unveil a second wave of announcements in the coming weeks which will include details of its plans for Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve.
