An opportunity for youth and community dance groups from Berwick and across Northumberland to share their dances with each other and with audiences at The Maltings. We particularly welcome groups across all ages, abilities and dance styles, and groups new to performing.

The Northumberland Pulse Dance Platform, now in its sixth year, celebrates the work of dance groups across the county.  These groups create dances in a range of styles, to a wide selection of music, involving beginners as well as dancers with experience, and cover a wide age range. The performance opportunity provides a chance to perform on a professional stage, with full lighting, or to share work on film.  And sometimes, the performance is informal and takes place in the foyer as people arrive.

The event always generates dances with a range of themes and touching or up to date story lines, which often involve the participants in creating the choreography.

For those groups who are interested, there is a chance to enter the competition side of the event, with three impartial judges selecting two groups of young people aged between 11 and 19 years (or 24 years if young people have a  disability) to represent Northumberland at a North East wide youth dance event, which includes two groups selected from each of the other 4 youth dance hubs in the region (Newcastle/Gateshead, North and South Tyneside, Sunderland/Durham, Tees Valley).  At the regional event, usually held in the theatre at Dance City, three groups are selected to represent the North East at a national event, which in the summer of 2016 will be held at The Lowry, Salford.
