Join Muddy Fingers at the Black Gate for a half-day workshop of raku firing. There’ll be pots fired ready for you to come along and get creative with.

In this workshop, you will learn how to glaze your pot using bespoke raku glazes. You can use resist techniques and patterns to create your masterpiece. Once you’ve finished glazing your pot, it will be put inside a kiln until the glaze melts (at around 950 °C). Then, when it’s at the maximum temperature, it will be taken out of the kiln and placed into an airtight sawdust bin which helps achieve a coppery bronze colour. The final stage is for it to cool fully in a bucket of water and for the pots to be washed, ready to take home.

This event takes place in the Black Gate, which is fully accessible to wheelchair users.
