The Optimus Fighting Championship are proud to announce that their first event - Optimus FC I – The New Dawn which was held at The Newcastle Metro Radio Arena was a complete success for Fighters and MMA fans alike.
Unfortunately the Main Event including UFC Legend Dan ‘The Beast’ Severn did not take place due to the freak Volcanic eruption in Switzerland during the days leading up to The New Dawn. This grounded Dan Severn’s aeroplane and he was unable to enter UK aerospace due to the volcanic ash that has caused worldwide chaos.
Now looking towards Optimus FC II – The Second Surge, we again have a fantastic night of exciting match ups ahead.
Unbeaten Paul Cooke (10-0-0) now faces a new foe, who, having fought on MMA’s biggest shows in the past, wishes to bring his experience to the octagon here in the North East.
Of course the 16 Man Open Weight Tournament continues, down the last 8. Unfortunately with several fighters withdraw from the show due to contractual obligations or serious injury. We have replaced them with fighters who showed the most courage and heart, though ultimately lost their battles in the first round. Fight of the Night Winner such as Kenny Dugay, re-enter the fold, as does Steve Evans and Dave Brown. These fighters will do battle against – Mickey Burns, Chris Petrie, Lewis Barrow, Shaun Lomas and Keith Ellis.
Having removed himself from the first show through injury Abdullah is back to take over the Optimus FC Middleweight division. Abdullah Abou Hamdan (3-1-0) will be facing Frank Bell at 84kg, who is returning to Middleweight from a valiant loss to a Heavy Weight three weight divisions above him in Open Weight Grand Prix.
Outside the Tournament the excitement is just as electric where North East based fighter Peter Wilson is taking on the tough Marcin Zonteck of Poland. Whilst 6’9 David Keeley (3-0) looks to extend his unbeaten run by taking on local Mark Orr, a young and gifted Mixed Martial Artist who wants to prove himself by fighting the best opposition he can.
