The coaly faces and heavy pit boots of the mining communities are just a distant memory now. Northumberland today is a stunning and vibrant place filled with inspiring, challenging and sometimes wacky people more likely to be wearing a business suit, bikers leathers or a cowboy hat rather than a pit helmet. There's the odd Roman soldier or Viking too.
