Drawing is an integral part of Jenny Purrett’s work. She uses it as a way to connect with the world around her. For her, a drawing is more than a record of what is being looked at, it encompasses the whole experience of looking: an experience which uses all the senses, not just the eyes; an experience which is temporal, the whole process taking minutes, hours or days.
Touching with the eyes incorporates drawing and installation work made specifically for the Customs House.
Jenny Purrett was last year’s artist in residence for Visual Arts in Rural Communities at Highgreen in Northumberland. She continues to live in the North East, making work in response to the rural landscape.
