The aim of the Sunderland Book Project is to raise the profile of the city of Sunderland through the medium of artists' books worldwide, and provide a platform for bookmakers to exhibit and showcase their work.
Participants have all created books from scratch inspired by the city, history and people of Sunderland, right down to the book cover and ‘blurb’ on the cover.
Themes include shipbuilding, the history of the SAFC strip, the Venerable Bede, the role of the River Wear and the city’s glassmaking heritage with artists from as far afield as Brazil contributing works.
The Sunderland Book Project is led by artist Theresa Easton. You can read all about the project by visiting Theresa’s website and blog, by clicking here.
