The centrepiece of Durham’s arts programme, the Gala Theatre is situated in a beautiful, purpose-built, £15 million building on the banks of the river Wear in the heart of this historic city. The venue houses a state-of-the-art modern theatre, spacious and comfortable café-bar, two cinema screens and superb conference facilities.

Intervals offers the perfect place to eat and drink in style, with a wide selection of fresh salads and pasta, gourmet sandwiches, tasty snacks and mouth-watering cakes and pastries. Chill out with free Jazz every Saturday from 12.30pm.

Accessibility

The Gala is fully accessible. There is easy access to the auditorium with lifts to the upper levels. Accessible toilets are located throughout the building. If you are a wheelchair user advise the Box Office when reserving your tickets to ensure seats are allocated accordingly. Wheelchair places are situated in the Stalls and Circle - we request disabled patrons have an able bodied companion, whose ticket is free.We operate the Sennheiser infra red amplification system. Headsets are available at the Box Office. Guide Dogs and other working dogs are welcome in all parts of the theatre.

Directions

By train: Durham's mainline train station is ten minutes by foot, please follow signs to the Gala Theatre. By road: From the North and South A1 leave at Junction 62 take the A690 towards Durham, at the Gilesgate roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Claypath, the Gala is at the foot of the hill on the left hand side. Nearest parking is available at Prince Bishops shopping Centre and The Sands. Please note that the Sands car park is not suitable for those with impaired mobility.
