Darlington Arts Centre offers an extensive range of entertainment from live music and theatre, to visual arts, films, courses, and activities for young people. The building also offers two great performance spaces - the Theatre and the Studio.
It encompasses the Myles Meehan Gallery, the Foyer exhibition space, the Window space and Glass Corridor Gallery. These exhibition spaces aim to provide opportunities for artists and groups to exhibit their work in new and exciting ways.

Café/Shop

The Bistro is open Monday to Saturday from 10.00am, last orders 2.00pm. There is a comprehensive sandwich and salad bar, hot baguettes, jacket potatoes, pastas, traditional meals all of which can be eaten in the Bistro or on the go. The bars are open to the public, you don’t have to be participating in Arts Centre events. A wide range of beverages is offered including cask and keg beer and food is available at the bar. The Garden Bar caters for jazz lovers at lunchtime on the first Saturday of every month, for folk music every Thursday evening and rhythm and blues on selected Friday evenings, all be ticket, which can be purchased in advance or on the door.

Accessibility

The Arts Centre main entrance is ramped and there is level access to the Theatre, Ballroom, Bistro, Main Bar and other ground floor rooms. There are a few steps up to the Garden Bar and other rooms are up one or more flights of stairs. Unfortunately, the Arts Centre has no lift. Wheelchair users and blind people may bring a companion free of charge. Wheelchair spaces are charged at a concessionary rate (for performances where concessions are available). There are adapted toilets suitable for wheelchair users, and people with mobility difficulties, on the ground floor in the foyer. Audio loop available. Performances which are sign language interpreted are marking in the organisation’s What’s On diary. If you are attending a performance because it is sign language interpreted, please let the Box Office staff know when booking so that they can give you seats in the best place. Copies of the season brochure are available in audiocassette version, large print format of Braille. Please ask at the Box Office. Performances which are audio described are marked in the season brochure. Headsets are available from the Front of House staff. Please arrange in advance with Box Office staff. Touch tours of the set may be arranged one hour before the audio described performance. If you would like a touch tour please let the Box Office know at least two days in advance when booking your tickets. Guide dogs welcome. At some performances programmes are now available in Braille.

In person: Arts Centre Reception Monday to Saturday, 9.00am to 8.00pm. By post: Write to Darlington Arts Centre and Civic Theatre, Parkgate, Darlington, DL1 1RR. If you are sending cheques or postal orders as payment for tickets please cross them and make them payable to Darlington Civic Theatre. If you would like your tickets posted please add 60p to the total cost or enclose a stamped addressed envelope. Please include a daytime phone number.

Directions

By car: Approaching from the South From the A1 take the A66(M) exit. At the first roundabout take the 2nd exit heading for Darlington Town Centre, which takes you past the Blackwell Grange Hotel on your left. At the Sainsburys roundabout take the 2nd exit, which leads onto Stanhope Road South. Follow the road until you reach a small roundabout. Turn left onto Abbey Road, and then take the 1st turning on your right into Vane Terrace. The Arts Centre is located approx. 50 yards on your left. Approaching from the North From the A1, take the A68 exit. Follow the road into town (approx 2 miles) until you reach the village of Cockerton. At the roundabout, follow the A68 into Darlington Town Centre by taking the 1st exit, then the 1st exit at the next roundabout,  which takes you onto Woodland Road. You will see signs for the Darlington Memorial Hospital on your left, and shortly after a pelican crossing turn right into Vane Terrace. The Arts Centre is located approx. 100 yards on your right. Approaching from the East From the A66, follow the A66(M) the new road which connects to the A1(M). Go straight over at the next 3 roundabouts. You will see Stressholme Golf Course on your right. At the next roundabout where the Reg Vardy Garage is situated, take the 3rd exit heading for Darlington Town Centre, which takes you past the Blackwell Grange Hotel on your left. At the Sainsburys  roundabout take the 2nd exit, which leads onto Stanhope Road South. Follow the road until you reach a small roundabout. Turn left onto Abbey Road, and then take the 1st turning on your right into Vane Terrace. The Arts Centre is located approx. 50 yards on your left. By train: Darlington BR - the Arts Centre is a short taxi ride away or a 15 minute walk through the Town Centre.
