10:00 To 17:00

As part of Heritage Open Days in Tyne and Wear, we will be open free of charge on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 September. At 11am, 12pm and 2pm each day, free walking tours will set off from the Black Gate. These will be led by one of our highly knowledgeable volunteers and delve into the history of the Castle Garth: the area once enclosed within the Castle walls.

Heritage Open Days is an annual celebration of England’s architecture and culture that allows visitors free access to historical landmarks that are either not usually open, or would normally charge an entrance fee. It also includes tours, events and activities related to architecture and culture.

Please note: The standard entrance fee will apply on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September.
