(S)HE is an exhibition which voices, maps and investigates the presence of women in the Hatton Gallery collection. The combination of works is designed to spark discussion on the roles played by women in the wider art historical narrative.

Situated in the Exhibition Gallery on the first floor, (S)he will be a platform for discussion surrounding women and art but also a space to challenge gender stereotypes. A conscious choice was made to include both male and female artists in dialogue with each other, drawing connections between genders despite the seemingly absent female component.

Featuring a diverse range of artists including Paula Rego, Ella Bergmann-Michel, Louis Lèopold Boilly and Alan Davie, the show navigates throughout the art history from the 16th to the 21st century provoking questions concerning the current state of gender inequality in art.

This exhibition has been organised by 22 Curators as part of their studies in Art Museums and Gallery studies at Newcastle University.
