The Refectory Library

Durham has a strong scholarly tradition which has spanned the course of over a thousand years. The manuscripts and early printed books in the Cathedral’s collection tell the story of learning throughout the Cathedral’s lifetime, including the establishment of Durham College (now Trinity College) in Oxford University, the education of the monks of Durham Priory, and wider historical approaches to the pursuit of knowledge. Come and see a selection of these manuscripts and early printed books in the beautiful surroundings of the Refectory Library and become a part of Durham’s ongoing scholarly tradition.
