We are thrilled to welcome the author and screenwriter David Nicholls to Durham.

A decade after the release of his phenomenal bestseller, One Day, Nicholls returns with a bittersweet and brilliantly funny coming-of-age tale. Told over one life-changing summer, Sweet Sorrow explores the transformative impact of first love in the ordinary life of sixteen-year-old Charlie Lewis.

David Nicholls’ books include Starter for TenOne Day and Us. For the screen adaptations include Great Expectations and Far from the Madding Crowd. Amongst many awards, he most recently won a BAFTA for his adaptation of Patrick Melrose.

Chaired by Claire Malcolm, New Writing North

Sponsored by Swinburne Maddison

At 8.15pm there will be a screening of Far from the Madding Crowd, as selected by David Nicholls.
