Lumiere Durham

18 November 2021 - 21 November 2021

Lumiere, the UK’s leading light festival, returns to Durham 18 – 21 November 2021. The free-to-attend festival is produced by leading arts charity Artichoke and commissioned by Durham County Council, with additional further support from Arts Council England and Durham University, and a host of other sponsors and funders.

This landmark biennial event will present a programme of spectacular new commissions by international and UK artists using the medium of light. The programme will light up Durham with artworks by artists from the North East to across the world.

Lumiere celebrates Durham as a national and international centre for innovative arts and cultural activity. People, especially audiences, volunteers and participants, are at the heart of Lumiere, with an ambition for the festival to be as inclusive as possible.

The festival is continuing to build on its Learning and Participation programme, which reaches hundreds of schoolchildren and local people with little access to the arts.

CHANGES TO TICKETING AT LUMIERE

All tickets will be available on the Lumiere website. As always tickets will be free and this year for the first time, all tickets will be digital.

Lumiere is open each night between 16:30 and 23:00. (County programme 16:30 to 22:00). The festival is completely free to attend and 29 of the 39 installations are accessible without a ticket at all times. In a change from previous years, the controlled City centre area of Lumiere will be ticketed for the entirety of the festival opening times every night. This is to manage audience numbers as part of measures in place to offer a COVID secure experience.

A timed ticket will be necessary to visit the controlled central Lumiere zone at any time between 16:30 and 23:00 when the festival closes.

**There is no time limit once inside the controlled zone.** Tickets will be available for the following time slots: 16:30, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:00, 22:00.

Free tickets will be available for local residents from 10:00 on Tuesday 19th October. You can register for an account in advance using the button on the menu bar on the Lumiere website.
