22 February 2020

Open Art Surgery is hip hop theatre dissected, examined and put under the microscope.

After spending a week working under the guidance of some of the UK’s leading hip hop theatre mentors our established and emerging artists present brand new work. See it for the first time, hear their creative journey and then share feedback in our live audience discussion.

Open Art Surgery is about breaking down the fourth wall and showcasing raw talent and new work. Experience the birth of a new piece before it evolves and continues to grow. Work that has appeared at Open Art Surgery has gone on to feature in Resolution, Just Jam, Edinburgh Fringe and Breakin’ Convention’s international tour.

Witness cutting-edge hip hop theatre as it happens!

Breakin’ Convention is the critically acclaimed powerhouse behind a hip hop theatre revolution. Established in 2004, under the artistic directorship of Jonzi D, Breakin’ Convention produces large-scale international festivals of hip hop dance theatre, a range of professional development projects and an extensive education programme. Since its foundation, Breakin’ Convention has been based at world-leading dance house Sadler’s Wells and is an integral part of the theatre’s artistic programme.
