Martha Graham and her technique have crossed centuries-from the 20th to the 21st and her technique remains at the very core of the training of contemporary dancers both in America and other parts of the world. But this highly influential technique is in danger of becoming neglected if not largely forgotten here in the UK.

Eliot Smith, artistic director of Eliot Smith Company and an Associate Artist at Dance City, explains why her technique and legacy are still important and how today she still influences his choreographic work and teaching within the Company and elsewhere. He also projects how her work and training can be preserved for future generations of dancers and audiences.

This 60 minute special presentation will include an insight into Eliot Smith’s recent visit to The Martha Graham Centre of Contemporary Dance, New York as part of the Artist’s International Development Fund – funded and supported by Arts Council England and British Council- and the conversations and interviews he conducted with key figures in the dance world of Martha Graham.
