20 October 2019 - 26 October 2019

Aspiring artists of all ages are being invited to put themselves in the picture to create a unique piece of art.

As part of the national Big Draw Festival 2018, we are hosting a week of half-term activities at Auckland Tower, from Saturday, 20 October until Friday, 26 October.

Led by Bishop Auckland-based artist and illustrator, Laura Brenchley, the drop in sessions will encourage visitors of all ages and artistic abilities to dress up in costume and create a fun self-portrait, using their fingerprint.

Each portrait will be added to a large landscape jigsaw, created by Laura, and inspired by the views of Bishop Auckland and the surrounding countryside from Auckland Tower’s 15m high viewing platform.

Once complete, the collaborative artwork will go on display in the learning rooms at 900-year-old Auckland Castle, which reopens next year following a multi-million pound conservation programme.
