We are delighted to be welcoming Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE to the 2018 North Pennines Stargazing Festival. At this headline event she will be looking at the wonders of space and what it can teach us – as well as offering insights into the world of space exploration and a perspective on women in science and engineering.

As well as fronting The Sky at Night, Maggie has appeared in many programmes, including Stargazing LiveThe Science of Doctor Who, and In Orbit: How Satellites Rule Our World. She is an engaging and passionate speaker whose enthusiasm for science and learning is infectious.

Maggie is from a modest background and diagnosed with dyslexia, she overcame the naysayers to study at Imperial College where she obtained her degree in Physics and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. She has worked variously in industrial and academic environments and is a well-known public figure promoting science education and the public understanding of space exploration. This event is part of the North Pennines Stargazing Festival running from 20 October to 4 November 2018 – www.NorthPenninesStarFest.org.uk
