The first on a fantastic menu of special guests, Phil is instantly recognisable from television programmes including This Morning and Ready, Steady, Cook. As well as passing on his top cooking tips, Phil will be giving advice on how to achieve a healthy, balanced diet.

His latest publication, Ultimate Diabetes Cookbook, offers tasty recipes for diabetics to enjoy. Phil is also a leading authority on gluten-free products and recipes, and is the National Food Ambassador for Coeliac UK.

Phil will be appearing in the Demonstration Theatre at Bishop Auckland Town Hall on Saturday, 21 April.

Phil said: “I am really looking forward to cooking in front of the great people of Bishop Auckland.

“I love visiting the North East and haven’t had the opportunity to visit such a brilliant food loving part of the country for a long time, so this should be extra special.”

This year’s festival, organised by Durham County Council working alongside Channell Events, has an exciting new look along with a packed programme full of live cookery demonstrations, culinary masterclasses and a variety of workshops for both adults and children.

The festival also welcomes a wealth of new street food producers and traders who will be showcasing their goods and giving people a chance to sample and buy food from right across the county and wider region. Hundreds of fabulous food and drink companies have already applied to take part in the event and showcase their products.

Cllr Ossie Johnson, Cabinet member for tourism, culture, leisure and rural issues, said: “The Bishop Auckland Food Festival is the highlight of the area’s culinary calendar, with more than 25,000 people attending last year’s event.

“As well as boosting our economy, the festival gives local people the chance to showcase their produce and with the exciting line up this year we are confident the crowds will turn out in force once again.”

Outreach programmes continue to be an integral part of the festival offering, with chefs set to visit schools across the county to share messages around healthy eating and giving children the opportunity to take part in tastings and workshops.
