PREVIEW: ONLINE Durham Brass Festival

Posted on July 13th 2020 by Whats on Northeast

Durham BRASS will liven up your living room as it moves online for 2020. The festival, which was scheduled to take place between 10 and 19 July, had to be cancelled earlier this year as part of the ongoing national effort to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

The online festival will take place from the 13th – 18th July and will feature many of the BRASS favourites from around the world, including interactive and entertaining workshops hosted by the likes of Spanish amigos Artistas Del Gremio, Mouv ‘n’ Brass from France and the UK’s own Backchat Brass. There will also be special lockdown performances from more favourites, including Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, with their unique colour and sound bursting from the screen with some exclusive content for BRASS 2020.

There is so much to look forward to, starting on the 13th July with the Durham Music Service tutorials, a series of short Brass tutorial videos taking place through out the week, to online workshops such as the Backchat Brass (UK) on the 16th July. You can enjoy a number of wonderful performances from the luxury of your own home such as Mr Wilsons second liners on the 13th and 17th of July, rousing audiences young and old into a joyful frenzy, they pay homage to the diehard days of the Hacienda, and 90s club culture. Other performances to enjoy include the fantastic Brass Finale on the 18th July, five favourite street bands to perform together (but apart!), backed by some footage from previous years, to bring this year’s online festival to a close. Don’t miss out on the Radio Shows with BRASS Unbound filling your living rooms with great sound on the 13th and 17th July, a show which looks at the traditions of the Miners’ Gala using audio clips from many of those involved, including the bands and their preparation, journeying to the event, and performing on the day. And much much more!
