PREVIEW: Sunderland Empire is set to impress as ‘Must-Sees’ unveiled in NEW What’s On Guide!

We celebrate the New Year in style with the hilarious musical Curtains – that’s sure to beat those January blues when Jason Manford (comedy and theatre legend), Ore Oduba (Strictly Come Dancing winner) and Carley Stenson (Hollyoaks and West End performer) star in it’s a whodunit like no other with catchy songs, unforgettable characters and plot twists galore!

West End hit Cabaret (Tue 28 Jan – Sat 1 Feb) starring Eastenders’ John Partridge and Anita Harris makes a welcome return, alongside family favourites The Sound of Music (Tue 11 – Sat 15 Feb) and the magical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Britain’s Got Talent finalist Mark McMullan as Joseph (Tue 18 – Sat 22 Feb).

The music of Michael Jackson lives on in Thriller Live (Thu 6 – Sat 8 Feb), alongside Olivier award-winning Beautiful – The Carole King Musical starring Daisy Wood-Davis (Channel 4’s Hollyoaks) as Carole King (Tue 17 – Sat 21 Mar) and rock ‘n’ roll phenomenon Million Dollar Quartet (Wed 25 – Sat 28 Mar) – there’s something for all music fans!

It’s going dance crazy this spring, when Strictly Come Dancing favourite AJ Pritchard brings his brand new show AJ LIVE (Sun 11 Mar), with special guest star and brother Curtis Pritchard (Love Island, The Greatest Dancer), followed by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s sumptuous Swan Lake (Thu 12 – Sat 14 Mar)

Strictly siblings Kevin and Joanne Clifton follow as they tour together for the first time in Burn the Floor (Wed 29 Apr) – the world’s leading ballroom show.

Hailed as the theatrical event of our generation, winning more awards than any other play in history, we welcome An Inspector Calls (Tue 21 – Sat 25 Apr), with its epic and wildly imaginative staging it will no doubt be a highlight for 2020.

The anniversary tour of Riverdance (Fri 1 – Sun 3 May) is set to thrill audiences as always, with its powerful reinvention of the beloved family favourite. Footloose is back in spring, better than ever – starring the incredible Gareth Gates (Mon 25 – Sat 30 May)

Award-winning Heathers the Musical (Tue 21 – Sat 25 Jul) based on the cult 1988 movie is set to shine in summer, plus the incredible master of psychological illusion Derren Brown makes a welcome return (Tue 4 – Sat 6 Aug).

Tickets are selling fast for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera – making its North East debut here in Sunderland (Wed 4 Nov – Sat 5 Dec), plus we’re delighted to announce that our pantomime for 2020, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (Sat 12 Dec ‘20 – Sun 3 Jan ’21), is on sale now!
