REVIEW: Frightwater Valley

Review by Emily Dudding

This Halloween Lightwater Valley theme park, Ripon, North Yorkshire is taking spooky into its own hands with ‘Frightwater Valley’, on until the 31st October! Visiting the theme park yesterday I saw the family-friendly venue host a number of new ghoulish activities such as the scary magic shows, spooky character meet and greets, monster knock doors and much more! We also witnessed the fun Halloween fancy dress competition take place on the stage which the kids all loved! And I must say, being 18, the live scream maze, aimed especially at adults, was right up my street. Being a theme park and having a lot of kids activities going on, I wasn’t sure what to expect for the scream maze, but I must say it did bring the thrill and chill it promised to! The scream maze is not suitable for children under the age of 12, and it is not hard to see why! I was scared out of my wits!

Of course, the theme park was still open so we made the most of the much loved rides as well as the frightening events going on this autumn! The raptor attack did fit in well with the scary Halloween mood as this ride was absolutely terrifying! The Raptor Attack is just what it sounds like – a roller coaster in which raptors jump out, but it is pitch black and the sound effects and twists and turns of the carriage really make the ride a one to remember! If you’re wanting even more thrills and chills this season, I would defiantly recommended The Ultimate for that scary adrenalin rush! This ride lasts 6 minutes and it is full of 2 lift hills, enormous amounts of anticipation and carriages hurting through the darkest forests! More rides include The Black Pearl, The Eagles Claw, The Apollo and much more!

Until the 31st October, Lightwater Valley will also be having fabulous firework displays with the ‘Frightwater Finale’ at 5:30pm. There truly is something for everyone this Halloween at Lightwater Valley, from spooky character meet and greets to the live scream maze (not for the faint hearted) and tremendous firework displays!
